In this eBay auction, the seller is offering a Hamilton 992B, which says 21J on the movment but 23J on the dial.

To my inexperienced eye, the crystal looks awfully thick. Could this be a dial from a 950B?

Andy,

UH! I think maybe you found a sleeper...although it looks like several others might have found it too.

Uh, Sleeper? Looks to me like the dial has been swaped out. Still looks like a nice 992b movement though.

Maybe they put in a Waltham jeweled barrel and made it 23J.

swapped out RR track dial from 950b.... note damage at edge at 3 & 9 locations....

case looks original and serials look close... It probably had a flaked off melamine dial ....

Am I correct in assuming this watch has a replacement crystal, on account of the fact that it seems to come out from the case quite a bit?

But it's really hard to tell without having it in hand.

Oddly enough, I bought a 992B a few years ago from a local estate exactly like the one pictured, same model case with a 992B movement and 23 jewel Railway dial. I put a replacement dial on the 992b watch and sold the porcelain 23 jewel dial for more than I paid for the whole watch. Never thought I would see another.
