Hello

I am attaching some pictures of a clock that I believe is a pocket watch. It says France on the movement. I am regularly a clock person so I'll need your help with this.

What does the circled button do?

I need a second hand about .3 inches long. The dia of the shaft it mounts on is .013 inches. If I bought an assorment of hands is this likely to be included?

Thanks

As I posted on your clock string, I also own one of these monsters. Mine has 'J&B' on the dial, and an 18s Longines movement inside, stem wind and set. No other markings on case or movement. I have no idea what the watch was used for, or where it originally came from either. The case is a silveroid snap back and bezel. Regards. Mark

Stewart,
Could the button be for setting the hands?

The button should be a pin set, that is you have to depress the pin before you can adjust the time. The hands are rather large for use on a large dial. I suspect it will be difficult to find a second hand large enough. You may end up making one. I do not know how common these watches were. If you are member of NAWCC you might find one at a regional or national meeting/mart, probably in the form of a parts watch. You might find a parts watch on internet auction sights.

The watch was probably a travel/desk watch similar to those produced in large numbers in this country by Waltham and others.
