Just stating a fact....
Never said I thought they were a bargain.....

have seen model 2 Hamilton tuxedo back case bring as high as 750 and know of two plain backs that sold at 500 range...

Of course the economics of having that much in a case makes the selection of the movement a narrow choice.... and then you still have a switched watch.....

Watchman,

Let me ask you a question. If you had a really nice WGF BS marked case, would you sell it for what this case sold for? Since I've sold them for more, I'm not sure I would.

I and both of the people who have responded to your post look for and buy all the cases we can find at reasonable prices. I have combed the marts with Fred many times, and recently we have not been finding much to buy. All I'm saying is that, last time I checked, they aren't making 16 size RR cases anymore, let alone BS cases. Good examples will continue to bring more and more, as long as people continue to collect Illinois watches.

I guess I am saying that I agree with the title of your post "I'd say buy all the....". Just don't be so shocked when they sell for a lot of money. The market will continue to get more and more shocking unless I miss my guess. It is just simple supply and demand.

I bought a first model BS case at a fea market a couple of years ago and, at the time, thought I was insane for paying $30 for it. In retrospect, I guess i'm not quite as insane as I thought.

Well I've said OMG more than once, but I reckon now I am a little immune.....

The WWW is open to a great diversity of people, some with DEEEEEP pockets and some with ivgottahavitits.......

The "sad" thing is that is sometimes brings great expectations out of the woodwork.....

I guess the difference is obvious

I just had a conversation with Jerry T. regarding cases last weekend. Yes, this seems like a lot of money for a case but think about it; Which are there more of, mint cases or mint movements? Of course the movements win, hands down. Over all of these years the cases have given up their engravings, gold-filling, case-spring strength, etc. in order to protect the movement from harm. Greater love has no case...Get my drift?
Looking at it another way, have you ever owned a classic car? The mechanical parts are everywhere relative to the availability of body parts in just usable condition. It's the body that's exposed to the elements and give up their excellence while surrounding the mechanical. We on the West Coast have a great deal of the clean bodied cars because the elements aren't as tough on the sheet metal as they are elsewhere. Many of the mechanical parts used by restorers here come from locations back east.
The bottom line is, the really clean cases are very scarce. I don't think that this buyer should look back on his/her deal with regret. Cheers
