I have a Simmons watch chain with a knife attached. The clasp of the Knife which attaches to the chain Is stamped with the intials B B.I would appreciate any information as to what B B stands for. Also on the link that attaches the swivel is stamped 34 and at the top of the link is Simmons. Any ideas what 34 means?
Many thanks,

Gary:
There are many styles of Simmons chains, some of which can be identified from Simmons advertising.

(you should copy this link and paste it in your browser address bar since directly linking to this website from the NAWCC Message Board is not possible)
If you can post a picture of the chain, perhaps will be able to pin down its catalog number (if it isn't B.B.I.) and when it was offered.

Thanks for the help. I now know it is a chain model #V136.Any idea of the models shown which is the most desirable? Also, I do not see an (I) on the clasp of the knife as you have suggested. Just a nice stamped initials B B. Not sure exactly how to post a picture to this board. I need to stop and figure it out. That is a great site.
Thanks Again,
Gary
Gary:
The 'I' was my mistake. I don't think that anybody has really looked at chains enough to know which is more or less common. As far as desirable goes, chains like style V136 are made to go with art deco cases of the 1920's and 1930's. Some, like the one linked to below, were made to go with a specific case, such as Hamilton's No. 5.
Notice that if you had a 2-Tone case, you could get a combination white and green (or yellow) gold filled chain to go with it.
