View Full Version : Kinda weird question!

I seem to always get some really vintage boxes or cases with my Pocket Watch buys. They are usually a cardboard box for a wristwatch. Should I keep them, or toss em? Seems strange since a lot of people buy just boxes, that they would send my POCKET WATCH in a box like that.
Thanks,
Sheila
Sorry for the question but I didn't know where else to ask.

Keep it, as these were outside containers for the boxes that housed the watches. Trading material or storage or ............

Sheila,
I got my daughter into collecting tins for several years because I got so many cool ones
every time I bought old watch parts. It wasn't just the watch and clock tins but the whole gamut from hair pomades to prophylactics, phono
needles.... Watch folk have always needed places to put extra parts. She has retired the collection and put them away but, I confess, I've pondered if she'd take an offer for them. I'd hoped the hobby would inspire more collecting but it never took off. She may be better off. For me, collecting is like breathing.

Sheila:

Keep them. They are collectible in their own right and have value.

Keep them Sheila. I know a jeweler that sold Babe Ruth wrist watches in 1950 that came with a plastic baseball case. He threw the baseball cases away because they took up too much room in his case. Today these plastic baseballs are worth as much or more than the watch itself.
