All,
I participated as an appraiser at a service club fund raising "Antiques Road Show", today. And will again, tomorrow.
One watch I saw today kind of struck me as a scarce one! I checked the "gold book", Meggers & Ehrhardt "blue" book, and Shugart, but the watch is not listed in any of them. Here's the description:
Movement: marked Illinois Bunn Special
Jewels: 23 ruby jewels, Jewelled motor barrel
Serial #: 2482290
Dial: 12-hour, double sunk, marked A. N. Anderson, Minneapolis
Does this version of Anderson 23jewel Illinois show in anyones data base? This one appears to be out of a run of 300, and I wonder how many other runs might have been produced. I have seen several 23-jewel Hamilton 946 grade watches with this private label.

Hi Doug:
As you said, this is from a run of 300 18-size, 23-jewel Bunn Specials, 2,482,001 - 2,482,300. Ed and I have the following in our data base, none of which are reported to have an A.N. Anderson dial. Unless other noted, the dials are, Double-Sunk, Arabic, Old English Style Figures (erroneously called Gothic).
2,482,083
2,482,084 - Dial not mentioned.
2,482,107
2,482,117
2,482,178
2,482,214
2,482,286 - Ferguson Dial
The dials on the 946 and 947 movements are marked "EXTRA"

Kent,
Thanks for your reply!
The A. N. Anderson dial on this watch could make this quite a scarce item! The gold book does list a 24 jewel Bunn Special PL for Anderson. One might almost think that this watch was made with an Illinois marked dial which was later replaced with the dial from a 24 jewel Anderson-marked model! But one has to wonder how remote the possibility might be of THAT happening! The dial on this one is not marked Extra.

Kent,
I have #2482061 to add to your data base. Also
with the double sunk arabic numeral dial.

Thanks bernie:
Does it have a Getty Dial (http://static.flickr.com/27/54955674_80f33584c0_o.jpg) with the Old English style hour figures?

Doug,
Was your Antiques Road Show appearance taped and is it going to be on Public TV? If so, do you know when?
Thanks

Kent,
The dial is the same as shown on page 94 of
Ill vol 2.It is either illustration (7) or (9).
The watch is in my safety deposit box at
the bank and I don't remember whether number
4 is serif top(7) or open 4 (9). My notes do not
explain that detail; Although I now realize I
should have recorded that.

Kent,
:frown: I shamefacedly admit I didn't photograph the Anderson! It was at a time when I had many lined up waiting, and I was unable to spend the time. But I should have taken his name so I could photograph it later. But I didn't! :frown:
Joe,
This was strictly a local, small scale, service club show. There were television stations there shooting "clips" for the daily news hour on their station. So it won't be on PBS (CBC, Canada). However, there is hope. The organizer for the function has a Sunday morning show on local radio called "What's it Worth." The guy who owns the watch may (hope hope) be listening tomorrow. The host will ask him to call in if he's listening, and it might just happen (fingers crossed). Please don't interdict me from the board for my stupidity!
