EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S REPORT
FOR SEPTEMBER 2001
Nancy D. Connelly, Ph.D.
1. The Chiller Noise Issue: G.R. Sponaugle & Sons, Inc. has
delayed the installation of the sound attenuation devices. The devices are
manufactured in Canada and shipping was delayed because of recent events.
G.R. Sponaugle & Sons has now received them and is currently doing the final
welding and painting prior to installation.
2. Museum Staff: The position of Curator of Collections
remains open.
3. Museum Assessment Program: The MAP institutional
self-assessment has been submitted. The American Association of Museums
will assign an outside reviewer to come for a site visit sometime this
winter.
4. Grants: A Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission
Museum Project Operations Grant of $17,380 has been awarded to the museum.
5. Fund Raising: Individual prospects continue to be
identified and ranked.
6. Membership Renewal Solicitation: Calls are being made
to lapsed members asking them to renew their NAWCC membership. Over 150
calls have been made; approximately 10% of the individuals contacted are
interested in renewing their memberships.
7. Special Thanks: The NAWCC Library and Research Center
has recently purchased archival material from Seth Thomas and General Time
offices in Georgia. Without the efforts of Fortunat Mueller-Maerki and his
LARC Committee, Ward Francillon and Beth Bisbano the purchase could not have
been made. We appreciate the time and effort that they spent on this
project. The collection contains tower clock installation ledgers,
photographs, original business documents including the Articles of
Association signed by Seth Thomas and is a significant addition to the
library's archives.
