Don't know much about watches. A friend has inherited what I believe is an 18s Hamilton.movement serial # is 801887. Its in a keystone gold case # 7447492. Anything anyone can tell us would be greatly appreciated . Thanks

The Hamilton you asked about, serial number 801,887 is one of their more common 17-jewel open-faced watches. It was known as the grade 974 and they built over 300,000 of them, which means it was a very popular model!

If it said "SPECIAL" on the movement I am sure you would have mentioned that. That one word would add considerably to the rarity, and therefore the value.

The Keystone case could either be "gold" as you mentioned or what is called a "gold-filled" case. That can easily be determined by other markings you will find on the case.

If you could take another look and send along all the markings you find such as "Guaranteed"or "25 years" we could tell you more about it.

On the watch movement check and see if it sets by pulling up on the crown or if you find a lever beside the dial at about 6 minutes past the hour which you pull out carefully to engage the setting mechanism.

Any or all of that will allow us to tell you more about the watch. But I can tell you, the name "Hamilton" is a testimony to the quality of the movement, as they built only high quality timepieces.

Just to piggy-back on what Lindell said,

you mention the example is an 18 size, it is in reality a 16 size movement.

We can give a little more details on case with additional information you provide.
