All,
Bonnie and I just got back from the 2006 Ward Francillon Time Symposium in Cleveland, and a worthwhile symposium it was. The general content of this symposium is well enough known to NAWCC members who will have seen the publicity in both the BULLETIN and the MART.
My first symposium was on Canadian Clocks which was the first NAWCC symposium held outside the US. The second one was the Railroad Time symposium that happened in Rockford, ILL, in 1996. This was my third symposium.
My purpose in this message is to try to convey to everyone how important it is to attend these events, and by doing so, to contribute to their financial viability. Speakers are brought in from world wide, expenses paid, to contribute to these events. If you see a symposium that caters to your needs as a collector, these are one-of-a-kind events, never to happen again, so it would be to your advantage to attend! For your own benefit, and for the assurance that these events continue to happen. Please consider doing what you have to do to attend. I'd like to do more of them, myself, but unlike the thousands of collectors within DRIVING distance of Cleveland and who didn't attend this year's event, my wife and I attended, and we had to FLY! It was well worth the time and expense, and Dr. Clint Geller and others who helped organize and run it, deserve our accolades. As do the presenters, all of whom went to great lengths to present two days of the best horological content you are going to find anywhere, any time.
