View Full Version : Redial?
The below is a recent acquisition (Colonial Riverside 21j in 12s). The dial is the correct style as verified by contemporary examples, but the quality of the printing gives me pause.
Thoughts? Hopefully picture is big enough.
Thanks,
Tim

can't tell from the picture--need to see in person but there are dial companies that redo these regularly!

It appears to be a metal dial. Metal dials did not hold up well. Some would corrode. If you attempted to clean them, most of the numbers and lettering would come off. Thus there many small businesses that refinishing metal dials. Some refinishers are good, others not so good.

Sorry about the picture; it was not originally intended for this purpose.
Pay special note to the wider A and M in Waltham, the slightly off-center seconds track, and the minute track near 5 and 8.
Would this dial have been hand-painted when this watch was made (1935)? If so, maybe the dial painter was having an off day? I imagine the varying textures of the dial (and raised numerals) would have made painting difficult.
