There's nothing about this maker in Baillie, but in Britten's Old Clocks and Watches there is an entry for a maker named John Gatland of Cuckfield, 1740 (Edward's father, brother?).
You might find more out by contacting the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, based in London, although most of their records are for London makers. But if John Gatfield of Cuckfield is recorded there, who knows, perhaps other family members are recorded too.
