john is correct.

If the case was a factory hamilton case, it would be so marked.

remember though, these watches were available at the time as a movement, and the buyer had their choice of cases from the jeweler, who then cased the watch.

so..... the time frame is important.. what is the serial number?

also, from what i remember from past discussions, the swing-out cases in solid are not toooo common... something about the threads vs the material...

I believe John is right, but just to add to what he said, this watch, as is the case for most Hamilton 992s, was almost certainly not cased at the factory in a Hamilton marked case. Most 992s, until late in the production would have been sold as movements only to the eventual retailer, who would have put it in a standard 16 size case of their customer's choice.

Check for extra case screw marks. If there are none, I think you could say that this case is probably original with out waking up the "Watch Police".
