Just a quick one this morning. I'm using (the rare times I do any watch work) a Vibrograph B-200. At this point I came across a very clean M-80 timing machine and was wondering if it was worth while making the switch. I don't do any quartz watch work.
Any pros or cons?

Wynter,
I have a Vibrograf M-80, as well as a B-200, and I use them both, but for working on mechanical watches, the B-200 is far superior, in my opinion. The advantages the M-80 has include its capacity to time an accutron to 1/10th of a second per day, and quartz watches to 1/100th of a second per day, and of course, since it's digital, it uses no paper.
The M-80, however, was designed at a time when it was presumed that mechanical watches would soon be obsolete, and while they will check the rates of mechanical watches, they have several disadvantages. One is that the movement holder is in a fixed position, and can't be rotated to check the rates in various positions. Another disadvantage is that there is no means by which to check the beat of mechanical watches.
In short, if I had to get rid of one or the other, the M-80 would definitely have to go.
By the way, I looked at the small stakes I have yesterday, and they are much larger than the 2 mm ones you need. I didn't actually measure mine, but I could easily see that they are at least 3.5 - 4 mm. Sorry....

Thanks for the information Steve. It?s pretty much what I expected to hear but it?s good to hear it from someone with first hand knowledge.
Another positive note is that I think the M-80 brings more money on the resale market.
I?m off to post another what is it or should I say what are they.
I almost forgot, Thanks for taking a look through you staking sets.
Many thanks,
Wynter
