Well so far no luck on the needle in a haystack thread. :frown: So I?ll try a tool project I finally got around to doing last night.

I posted a picture of the dial when I bought it months ago. It is hard fired enamel and the dial foot alignment is for a Waltham 1883 hunting case movement. The can is a Waltham shipping container, the type with flat glass. I got it from a fellow poster here, Thank you! The movement is just a 17 jewel, adjusted Waltham 1883.

Since I only had the dial to start with I was guessing at the shipping tin. It just seemed to make sense since a flat glass surface is best for vibrating hairsprings.

Has anybody ever seen this type of set up before? I haven?t been able to find the dial in any of my old Swartchild catalogs.

Nice to see one together. Some guy at the
golden Gate regional was describing one
of these to me and looking for 1883 parts.

Were you set up against the wall?

Looks like a low cost solution to hairspring vibrating. Check Swartchilds great depression era flyers and booklets. 18s movements would also not have been expensive then. Any indication that the dial is Swiss made?

Yup, that was me. I wish I'd read your name tag http://www.nawcc.org/ubb/rolleyes.gif we could've chatted tools.
I've got one of the Waltham tin boxes that
those movement holders fit into. The bumps on the mov't holder fit between springs and display the mov't holder, or viibrator. When I see it next I'll let you know. I think the tool would good in it.

Robert, there are no Swiss markings on the dial. However I suspect it is Swiss made.

Cort, that show was the first I?d done or even attended in years. I was set up very close to you. I had 2 tables covered with watch and clock junk and sounded like a carnival barker trying to give the stuff away. I also went to the little San Leandro mart this weekend.

I looked in the few 1930's Swartchild catalogs and pamphlets/flyers in my possesion. No luck. Will look in some older stuff. The one you're bidding on, on Ebay, is a step up, at least. Another project?

I've got the 1919 Swartchild and will take a look/see also.
Wynter, I was at Chapter 5 and busy
for the duration! See you in March?

Robert, Thanks for looking. I?ve looked through all my Swartchild stuff and can?t find any reference to the dial. The one on eBay was just cheap! I?m done with the vibrator portion of my collection. I am still looking for a few of the go with hairspring tools, mainly a Luthy gallows. Not a rare tool I just haven?t come across one I like.

Cort, I don?t know about the next San Leandro mart, I don?t even know what I?m doing this weekend. I?m going to the L.A. show in February and will most likely do the next Bay area mart.
