Steve,

I think we are still looking for a clue as to the maker of the watch. My French/English dictionary says that galonne is ribbon, or lace. Cylindre refers to the cylinder escapement, 6 rubis means 6 jewels, and cuivre on the cuvette (the inner cover) means copper. I would guess perhaps mid-19th century, Swiss, of course, but the maker may be hard to identify. If there is no name on the face (dial) of the watch, then you will have to look closely at the workings (movement) of the watch for some kind of trade mark there. You may or may not find one because of the way these Swiss watches were made. A number of specialist manufacturers made various parts for the watch, and it would have been assembled, adjusted, and otherwise made to run by a finisher or finishers. So many hands were involved in is manufacture. In other words, it was not likely produced in a specific factory.

Regards,
Doug S.
