Hi Odelishr,
Welcome to the message board! I've seen a Longines signed this way and I think I still have it. I'll check on that tomorrow and will report back. I am certain though that Black, Starr and Frost is not a watch maker but, rather, a jewelry company that had their name put on the watches of other companies. I believe this company was a dealer of high quality. I'll know more tomorrow.

Thanks. I searched the web and got a reply from a Tom Johnson who said that it is a very fine watch and very ellusive one yet was unable to give further information.

I, too, have seen this label on fine watches from several different manufacturers, American and Swiss. They were a New York jewelry store. A brief history can be found at their WEB SITE (http://www.blackstarrfrost.com/aboutUs.htm)

Thanks. I saw it too and also wrote them yestrday to know what their connection with watches were but no reply received yet. In Cal it must be middle of night now. Don't you sleep?

I have seen Walthams and other watches (often Swiss) with their name on them. I believe I have owend at one time a mintue repeater with a medium to high grade swiss movement. Last year I saw a reversable case with their name on it. and 18k gold watch!

They were known as silversmiths but made some terrific gold items as well.

To take a look at some of their fine workmanship (and a couple of watches) check here.. http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofo...prchi=&so=Show+Items (http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=so&sbrftog=1&fstype=1&from=R10&satitle=black+starr+frost&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=33701&fis=2&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&so=Show+Items) jeff

Thanks Jeff. I received some time ago a reply from a Tom Johnson whose name and address I got from the web when typing Black, Starr & Frost, that the pocket watch in question (18K gold)& inscribed 1904 is a unique one and very ellusive and probably worth the $2,200 I paid for it. However, he too referred me to a Jewller's firm of NY who moved to Cal. I got their web address and sent an enquiry but they did not respond yet.

I found the mov't I referred to above but I'm not having luck posting the photos. No big deal.It is not a Longines as I thought, but it is a medium to higher grade Swiss O-size htg.mv't with a double sunk dial sign "Black Starr & Frost/ New York"; movement signed the same; a peculiar setting mechanism too.

Thanks. It takes the air out of what Mr. Tom Johnson wrote me long ago about it being a unique watch and quite expensive one...

Odelishr,
What I have is not what you have. Black Starr and Frost was apparently a classy New York jewelry company that had their name placed on the watches they dealt in. Without more information on your watch it's difficult to say much more. Can you post a picture?

posting a picture may be difficult as all the items I have are packed indevidually and I shall have to open many packages to find this one. I shall try and if possible, post it.

Odelishr,
I feel like that often. When you find it, we will still be here.
