I have a Waltham 845, serial 14,003,794 that does not have 5 positions marked on the barrel bridge as I have seen on others. I thought maybe the bridge had been swapped, but the serial checks out as an 845. I have since seen serial 14,090,073 also without the 5 positions marking and 14,194,045 with it, so presumably it was first added at sometime between these runs. I have checked out Jim Schneider's excellent website re these models and cannot find any references to it. Have any of you guys out there got any 845 models between these numbers to see when it first occured?
I know it's a silly little point but it's bugging me..

Keith,
I do not think you will find a sharp numerical changeover point in going from "Adjusted" to "Adjusted to 5 Positions" engraved on the plates.
Many railroads changed their requirements to require the number of positions be engraved on the plates in the 1906 to 1908 timeframe. Most US (and Swiss) manufacturers changed their markings on RR grade movements to comply when they started new runs, but as watches weren't finished in numerical order there may not be a definite changeover number.
Looking at the Grade 845 only, we have 14,127,330 as being marked Adj, and S/N 14,173,263 as the earliest being marked A5P.

Hi Ed,
Thanks for clarifying that.

Ed-

The current research would suggest that at serial number run 14173201 845s began to be marked "5 Positions" with consistancy. Previous to that, it seems to be hit and miss. Previous to 14 million, I have very few reports of the "5 P" marking on any grade. After 14 mil it begins to show up sparadicly until 14101601 where it begins to appear with regularity on Vanguards and Crescent Streets.
