Did all Waltham Riverside Maximus watches have the script signature on the dial, or did some later, non-railroad versions have different dials? I've seen some art-deco types that have distinctive, stylized metal dials, but how about "ordinary" watches, did any of them have porcellain dials with block letter signatures?

As far as I know, all 6-size, standard 12-size and 16-size Riverside Maximus watches came from the factory with special Maximus-grade dials (with the special upright script signature). These were single- or double-sunk. Of course, other dials could be supplied at customer request or for private labels.
Waltham Colonial Maximus-grade watches usually did not have the classic Maximus dial. The original Colonial Series (12/14 size) "Riverside Maximus" usually had an enamel or metal dial with italic numbers and "WALTHAM" in block lettering. The Colonial-A (10 or 14 size) "Maximus" (not Riverside Maximus) came with a variety of metal dials that changed with the styles, but there was no specific Maximus dial.
As far as I know, the 0-size Riverside Maximus (1891 and 1900/07 models) used a Maximus-grade dial, like the 12 and 16-size, with upright script signature (single-sunk). However, many later ones cased as wristwatches appear to have other dials. Smaller sizes (6/0 and 10-ligne) had high-grade dials but I have not seen a specific Maximus-grade dial on these.
