Bill,

Not all Sangamo Specials were 17 size. It depends on the serial number. The early versions were 16 size and the later versions were 17 size. If you post your serial number, I can tell you which you have.

Period ads show that some Sangamo Specials came with metal dials. If your SS is 17 size it will be difficult and expensive to find a 17 size dial for it. Some of the watch parter-outers/destroyers on eBay sell them from time to time.

John will answer again also... but your watch is a 16 size, model 10.

This 'thin model' sangamo special has a single sunk dial in 'porcelain' or like you say a metal dial. the metal dials are not too common, and seem to have less desirability.

It could be a good candidate for a refinish job like done on some wristwatches....

like john says, there are dials at times offered from disassembled watches.... as these watches were factory cased, this should IMHO be avoided.... but one can never know where a loose dial lying around comes from.

Bill,

I would love to have you come to the next chapter meeting. I am the tall salt and peppah hair's dude with a beard. I will introduce you around. By all means come to Auburn next month. If you can find a dial for this watch it will be at Auburn.

Like Terry says, this is a 16s Sangamo Sp. I have seen these watches with lots of dials because lots of dials will fit. Terry is probably right about the single sunk porcelain gothic numeral dial, but I am not absolutly sure that they might not have come with double sunk. Anyway, you will be able to find a nice dial for this watch at Auburn to tide you over until you find the perfect one.
