Dear Friends,
Recently I bought an Adam Burdess fusee&chain pocket watch and it came with a handsome chain. It is an English silver chain with a T bar. On the T bar there are maker's mark, lion passant and the date letter but not the city mark. So this makes it difficult to date. On the link which connects the T bar to the main body there's a Birmingham mark of anchor but it does not guarantee the link belonging to the T bar or T bar for the chain. Yet I wonder if who was the maker of the chain since his initials are as follows: H.P
I put an image down here as good as I could do.
And the image is absolutely smaller than 50kb.
I wish everybody Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.
Kind regards,
Constantin

Hi Constantin - I have a very similar silver chain to yours, T bar marked H.P, with the lion passant and date letter m, but no city mark. Some of the chain links have the Birmingham anchor and lion passant, but nothing else. It was common practice on very small items like T bars or chain links to have a partial hallmark, so it is hard to date them. There are several H.P's in the books, but without a date or city mark, I can't say who this one is. Sorry, this reply isn't much help.
Adam Burdess was a fine watchmaker and you are lucky to have one of his watches.
Best regards,
Jerry

Hi Jerry,
Thanks a lot for your reply. Yes you are right such items as chains are hard to determine its history. Yes Adam Burdess is a remarkable watch maker and my watch maker said the movement was serviced regularly and kept its original looking, also it is not only ticking but keeping a great time; it was a nice find for me.
Again many thanks for your kind help and information. Meanwhile I should remark my other silver chain, it has a very nice, enamelled fob and sealed Birmingham, 1921 and H.S.Ltd. and I am sure it was made by Herriet Samuel because maker's name is clear with the city mark and the date letter.
Merry Xmas and have a nice year,
Regards,
Constantin
