Don,
During your research at the NAWCC library archives, do you know if there exist a formal letter from management introducing the "Hamilton 992B" to the market in 1940? This information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Robert

Hmmm. I do not have a copy of the letter, nor do I remember seeing one. I do have letter announcing the 992E date August 12th, 1931. I am sure if I had seen one for the 992B, I would have copied it. I would think that there is a good chance that we have one though and if I looked in enough places, I could find it. You never know. We may have a folder labeled "Letters to our wholesale distributors" for one year, but not the next.
I would be looking for about November, 1940. The first shipment of 940 watches (992Bs) went out on 11/5-7/1940, although a few samples in skeleton cases went out as early as July and August.
If you are a member of NAWCC and send your request to research@NAWCC.org and ask the question, I would be happy to look. Put it to the attention of Don Dahlberg. With Ron Hill gone, I fear that I am the one with the most chance of finding it, if we have it. I should add that I am taking a long weekend with my wife, and will not be going in on this coming Friday.

RSweet,
I have a copy of the Hamilton Technical Data sheet (# T. D. 127) introducing the 992B, and dated 11-1-40. It doesn't specify whether the watches were available in stores at that time. This concurs with the trade announcement as included in Zip Zimmerla's treatise on the Hamilton 992B as presented at the Pacific North West NAWCC Regional in 2003. This article is to be published in the NAWCC BULLETIN some time in the future.
