My brother brought me a "Scotty" and I cannot seem to get it out of the case. I do not see an obvious way to get the stem out. He also had an obvious Westclox but it only says "Fedella" on the dial. Internally it looks identical to the "Scotty" except it has a Model 90001 Made In U.S.A. stamped on the plate above the barrel. I couldn't get either stem out. Any help would be appreciated. Are mainsprings and crystals available for these. Thanks in advance

Don't pull too hard on the winder, it is retained by a mechanism which rides in a groove down by the end of its stem. You need to gently pry that retainer up, either with perhaps a dental tool or a carefully ground nail, by which I mean you grind a little vee shape into the end of the nail which will fit with the retainer. This would be a medium finishing nail, usually. I don't think there is much written about Scotty watches, but use your mechanical visualisation to imagine the locking mechanism and you'll get the stem out OK. Plenty of parts for these little guys floating around. Seems like I once heard these were the first watches built without any human labor, totally by automation. Never designed to be repaired but they can be!

Jagkar, Thanks for responding to my question. I used your information and got the stem out, and made the repair. The mainspring tail end had broken off.
Thanks again for your help

Here is a page for the Westclox people. They have a board where you can ask a question about westclox or you can do a little research.
