I just purchased a K&D mainspring winder #128 on Ebay. Looks to be in good condition except for the holding studs on the turning shafts (3); they are mostly worn. Has anyone replaced these studs, please provide some information and guidance? Can the pins be pushed out and replaced? Are they straight or taper pins, what size? I don't have an original for a template; should the new pin holders be shaped, are the 3 all different sizes? Any information would be helpful.
Thanks,

Bill,

You may be in better shape than you think. The "holding Studs" should not protrude past the thickness of the mainspring that is to be wound up in the winder. This prevents the winder from damaging the spring. Also, depending on the watch, some springs wind into the winder clockwise, some counterclockwise. Therefore you won't find a flat on the stud in the winder like you do on most mainspring barrel arbors. The inner coil of the mainspring may need to be adjusted tighter so that it securely surrounds the turning shaft and the stud can grip it while being wound up.

Hope this helps.
