Rockford's list of serial numbers from the 1907 catalog jumps from 442,500 to 500,001. Were these numbers just not used, or was the information for the range 442,501-500,000 just not recorded? Has anyone seen any examples in this range?
Thanks!

I have not seen any in this range.
The grades also jump from two digits to three digits (82 to 930).

John,
Movements in this range have been observed, but so few that this range consists mostly of unused numbers. There are other smaller "blanks" in the Rockford s/n list from which movements have also been reported.
About 1894 Rockford went into receivership and when it emerged under new management and ownership they evidently started at a new and convenient serial number.
All-in-all the surviving Rockford s/n list has a number of inaccuracies and inconsistencies. One typo even created a much sought after grade that (in my opinion and having seen a couple) really isn't a different grade at all.

Thanks. I've recorded some examples of private labels in a few of the other (smaller) gaps, but this was just sucj a large one I wasn't sure what was up.
Greg, you've got me curious now - what's the typo that's behind the search for the mystery grade?

John,
The grade I'm thinking of, that in my opinion is just a typo in the s/n list, is the "501". The two examples I've seen from the run of these looked exactly like 510s.
