I'd like information on the following watch. For the life of me, I cannot find anything despite a number of searches.
Hampden Watch Company
Very heavy (coin silver, perhaps)
Movement says that it was made in Springfield MA
Movement marked 240099
On case: 6707
Inside case: Newport Coin
Thanks and also for any good sites for me to use as reference.

The factory serial numbers records for Hampden watches movements did not survive their bankruptcy and sale in 1930. However, Bob Arnold and the late Jim Hernick recorded many thousands of Hampden serial numbers along with their descriptions in their book The Hampden Watch Co.. The closest number they list to yours is 240083, which was an 18 size, Model 2, 11 jewel gilt movement made to fit into a hunting case (one with a metal cover over the dial). Exact production dates aren't known, but 1884 is probably within a couple of years of when it was made. If you can post a scan of the movement, it will help to determine if your watch is the same.
The case was made by the Dueber Watch Case Co, located in Newport, KY. It is coin silver (which is 900/1000 parts silver, or 0.900 fine). In the late 1880s, John C. Dueber, the owner of the case company, purchased the Hampden Watch Co. and moved both the watch and case making operations to Canton OH. whwre they remained until going under in 1930.
