Can anyone help me identify what the insignia on this dial is & what it stands for. It is on a 7 jewel, 16 size Waltham which is stamped with the name TEMPUS. I have put a link below so please click on it. Thank You

The insignia is the "Tempus Fugit" (time flies) symbol that is pretty common on timekeeping materials. I don't know what its significance to Waltham is.

The movement appears to be a Waltham model 1907 grade 360, 7J, 3/0 size. I would guess this is a private label, but there is only sparse documentation available on late low grade Waltham movements.

Hi Tom Thank You for the info. but the watch is a 16 size ser #21773255. I found it in the 3/0 size but not in 16s I know the insignia is the same just wanted more info as I have never seen this dial.

I could not clearly read the SN and mistook it for the 3/0. It is an Equity variation on the 1908 model for export. It probably had some significance in the UK. There are several examples in Ehrhardt's Vol 1 on page 56. Of course, none of them are marked Tempus.

While browsing eBay today I saw a Russell & Sons pocket watch and remembered that the Tempus Fugit label and the dial logo on your watch were used by them. It also roughly identifies the period, although I cannot recall just now what the Russell transitions were. Your Waltham can be dated from the SN, of course.

The eBay item (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=529528907) is a Swiss made for Russell. I should have known this off the top of my head, sorry for the delay while the brain cells congealed. You can click on the link above to see the one currently for sale.

I have no interest in and make no recomendation on the item for sale.
