I have, what I believe to be, two different cases that are both model 11s. One has a stepped area just below the crown on the center part of the case and another one is a perferct circle with no steps.
What up wit dat?
I think I have seen this variation in Model A cases as well.
Or maybe I just keep throwing my money down a hole on EBAY and get mix matched parts.
And by the way, I am still looking for a model A or Model 11 crown.

Have you looked for matching numbers on the back, center, and bezel?
I have documented the Model A in both smooth and stepped centers [the stepped centers being the earlier], but not the model 11. Maybe we have something else to look for...
It has been said the earlier model A and 11 shared the same center section. I can't see why this would not hold true throughout production.
There are a couple of "late" model 11 cases in database.... will try to track down info and post.

Somewhere lost among my limited amount of old advertizing/archives or conversations, I have some information that suggests the early model A frames with the stepped shoulder were actually left over model 11 frames.
If this were indeed the case then I would have to conclude that the model 11 was only offered in one version that being with the double stepped shoulder.
The A model was reduced in my opinion to the standard no shoulder case once the supply of model 11 frames were exhausted.
I have compaired and swapped bows and crowns from both in the past and find they do interchange... Don

The Model 11 case I have with no shoulders is case # K305402. The front of the center section is marked 5402. I can not find a number on the bezel. Where would it be located onthe bezel?
The movement serial number is C56839.

Some are not marked on the bezel. It would be the area that mates with the frame.
If you take a sharpie marker and swipe it round the rim when you wipe off the ink (Immediatly)with some acetone or nail polish remover the embossed numbers will still have some ink left in them. (if it is marked)

It is also possible they are marked in Roman numerals, hand scratched....
Also,
I have a report from a collector's cache of model 11 cases.
He has a case that is the highest serial number for model 11 I have in database. [k332235] It still has the stepped case.
In comparison, there is a model A case [k392863] that has a smooth ring.
Both movements are from the same time frame.
So it appears the Model A may be the only one that changed to a smooth ring..
Of course, additional research may change this....Look at your examples...

terry,
my regrets and apologies. i must have jet lag. i totally mis-understood your questions to me regarding the model 11 cases. case #'s 332235 & 325275 are not raised shoulder cases. the highest number raised shoulder case i have is 141572.

By Fred's submission and correction, it appears there are Model 11 without the steps.
The model A changes Before K228471, as it was a smooth case ring.
Will update other info....it will be interestng to see developments...
