Hi,

Your watch may be lever set, meaning that there is a small lever at the edge of the dial near the 1 or 2 that can be pulled out for setting the time (visible only while the bezel is removed). Once the time is set, just ease it back in (careful not to let it snap against the edge of the dial) and replace the bezel.

Just so you know, lever setting was being used during this period in order to prevent accidental adjustment while the watch was being carried. It was a requirement for RR grade watches.

I notice you're from Hunstville too (I'm in Monrovia). Welcome! If I can help, just drop me an email by clicking my name at the top of this reply.

Regards,
Mike

Howdy neighbor! (wish I'd thought of that to begin with )

I don't have a reference that tells exactly what movement you have, but if it's not lever set, it's pendant set. You may be being a little too careful when trying to pull out on the crown, or the sleeve (the part that enables the crown/stem to slip into two positions) could need adjusting. Either way, you shouldn't have to move the hands manually. Sometimes someone has changed the sleeve to one that's a little too small, or them sleeve can be screwed in too deep into the pendant causing it to be too tight or causing it not to allow the stem to come out far enough.

When you pull out on the stem, does it click into the upper position? If so, and the hands still don't move when the crown is turned, then the sleeve probably needs adjustment, or a different stem is needed. If it is not clicking into the upper position, then you're not pulling hard enough or the sleeve is too tight for the stem.

Mike

I find I often need to pull these stems with a slight twisting motion to get them to snap up to the setting position.
