Try taking it to Chris Carey at Watertown Watch & Clock just across from the library in Watertown. Either Chris or his granddad will likely have the part or can get it.

His number is 617 926 0993

Wayne,

I have a few Elgins that might be of some use filling out the post-1950 section of your database...

For example, I have a Lord Elgin with a 556 movement serial number V788515.

An Elgin 712, but it does not appear to have a serial number that I can locate.

I have another Elgin from 1929 (SN 32580941) with a one jewel movement... can't find the grade number on that one.

A square-faced Elgin 732 that appears to be from the '50s... no serial number recorded in my database on that one (suggesting I didn't see one).

A Lord Elgin 559 with a serial number of E433761. I dated that one 1943... might have been a guess.

An Elgin 670 (21 Jewel) serial number I918440. I've dated that one to 1961.

Pictures of any of these are available on request. Just let me know if they would be any use to you.

>You say that you have a watch SN32580941 with only one jewel.
>My database lists this as being a 7 jewel movement.

To be quite honest, I don't at this point know how I deduced it was a one jewel movement. I probably ought to keep better notes, but I'm fairly new to this. Thanks for the information... I trust it is correct, and have updated my database accordingly

>The grade 670 SN I918440 I didn't have recorded in my serial number list, thanks much.
>Just out of curiosity, how did you determine this was from 1961?

I believe that was the date provided by the seller. No guarantee of accuracy, to be sure. Like as not, the seller was guessing.

By the way, since you asked about the 556, it is a Lord Elgin (21J) and it is marked 4 adj's.
