Is there an easy, novie fix for the hour hand not at the hour number(it is before it)? When 12 the hour hand is at the 58 minute mark. Help and advie appreciated, thanks.

popeye:

The correct thing to do is to remove the minute hand and set the hour hand to 12 o'clock by turning the crown. Then, set the minute hand on its post, pointing to the '12,' superimposed over the hour hand. Then, rotate the hands slowy, using the crown, to check that they are parallel, not touching each other and clearing the second hand.

Thanks, how can you take off the minute hand? Seems like a delicate job.

popeye,
There are times when you can do without a specific tool to do a job and times when you cannot. When it comes to watch hands I never attempt to move hands without a watch hand removing tool. Watch hands are fragile--bend easily and tend to fly thru the air to never appear again. All the major supply houses have them. They remove the hands quickly, without bend or loss. There are also tips on dial protection with these tools(see removing watch hands--watch repair forum).

S. LaRose has a watch hand removal tool shown on Page 15 of Their 2005 Winter Flyer (http://catalogs.slarose.com/displaypage.html?catalog=WF1104&page=15wf1104.jpg). I haven't used this style, so I can't say if it works well or not. They probably have the style I'm used to, but I can't readily find it.

Kent,
You probably use the Bergeon "presto" model or something similar. That is also the one I use--it is the squeeze type as opposed to the plunger type as shown in the picture. LaRose does indeed carry the Bergeon type as well.
