There are only two runs of Waltham 00 size watches: 4,242,001 to 4,243,000 and 5,511,201 to 5,512,000.

Assuming you are measuring the dial plate, you can get a variance of about .005 pretty easily.

Howard, that serial no. is coming up as a "O" (zero) size, being a grade 161, 7 jewel, unadjusted hunter in my book. As for winding and setting be sure to check the rest of those related parts. Jim.

I belive the metal band you're talking about is a dust band. It's there to help keep out dirt and dust.
