ebay # 875121373 on ebay.ca (canadian) Is this a swiss fake? It looks like a hundred year old attempt to fool someone into thinking they were getting a Columbus Railway King with a choo choo dial. The engine is going the wrong direction and is different, the lettering is the same pattern. Has anyone seen one of these before? if so, I would be interested in knowing what it is. Looks like it may go very cheap, but no point in buying it if it is simply junk.

Thanks in advance.. Im in the process of moving after buying a different house so I will probably not be on for a few days. I will be able to check your responses at work and may be able to respond from there.

I am particularly amused by this line in the description:

I don't know much about this watch except I have been told it is very old and and excellent time piece. I wonder who told them that... no doubt a relative that knows next-to-nothing.

As for the watch going cheap, it seems the seller has other ideas. Note that it has not met reserve. The auction may end with a low bid, but since the dealer thinks this to be "old and excellent" they will probably not sell. Let them have their "old and excellent time piece". Save your money for one that brings you some pride in ownership.

I would suspect the seller knows very little about this watch or any other. At least one could assume so, since this will be the 2nd transaction on ebay, the last one being a stoneware rabbit........
Thanks for confirming my suspicions and yes, I believe I will pass on this one... I didnt notice the reserve not met thingy..I would be curious to know how high a reserve is on it, but its unlikely that anyone will be able to meet it. It is quite possible that the seller believes it to be a fantastic watch, a collectors dream.
This is really something... I checked the bidder with the highest amount of transactions... STONEWARE and ceramic BUNNYS!!!! coincidence?????
Anyone got a dial with a bunny on it?? Nows your chance to move on it!!!!

Well this is "Watch Collecting 101, First Day, First Lesson, Inferior Quality Fakes!

We see it, we know almost at a glance exactly what it is, and even more importantly we all know what it is not! But has anyone considered contacting this seller and politely explaining what this thing really is and suggesting how to write a proper addendum to their listing?

I collect South-Bend and related. With all of the mis-information that has been accepted as fact, I often will offer to correct a seller and give them information as well as little-known facts. I find most are very receptive, many are even grateful!

I think if we go with the attitude that most people, and at least SOME e-bay sellers are basically honest, this kind of situation could right itself in fairly short order.

Anybody up for it? Just a thought... kinda like "nothing ventured, nothing gained".

I note the auction ended and the reserve was met... and it was, apparently, a low reserve (high for what it is, low for what they apparently thought it was). May the buyer and seller find some sort of happiness in this transaction. And may we also rejoice in the knowledge that allows us not to be parted with our money.

And no, I did not write the seller before the auction ended. I, for one, am no expert in this area and would not presume to tell others what to say about their goods for sale.
