The serial number list in, "Waltham Pocket Watch Idenification and Price Guide" which is still available at www.hoapress.com (http://www.hoapress.com) lists this watch as a model 90, grade Seaside.

Hope this helps you in finding a mainspring.

I have 3 books from hoapress that I use;

(APWBE1) - American Pocket Watches Identification and Price Guide, Beginning to End 1830-1999.

This one has all American Watch Companies (I think) in it. No serial numbers. I use the pictures of the movements in this book to compare to what I am looking at.

(WAL1) - Waltham Pocket Watch Indentification adn Price Guide.

This one has the serial numbers from 1 - 33,820,900. It gives you the size, model, grade, jewels, setting,style, and grade of material.

(APWSN2) - American Watch Company Serial Numbers 1,001 - 1,500,000 and parts catalog.

This one is in the handwriting of American Employees and breaks down the runs a little more than the Beginning to End book.

I use all 3 books for researching watches and serial numbers. All 3 are a wealth of information.

If you have to get one, get WAL1. This will give you the basic information of the runs of watches produced. But as I am learning, there could be and are many differences in what is listed and what was produced.

As I have learned from many on this message board, "stare and compare, it's the watches that tell the story".

The 1890-model 6-size Waltham takes the 2219 mainspring. If you can't locate one based on part number, the dimensions are:
width - .205-.210 cm (D12)
thickness - .012-.016 cm (D7 or D8)
length - 16 inches

for your grade watch you would probably want a strength in the middle of the range.
