View Full Version : Rockford Up and Down Indicator
I have a 16 size, 17 jewel Rockford Grade 665 wind indicator watch. It is pendant set. There are many of the old price guides and other sources that say that these watches were lever or pendant set. I have been on eBay for many years and when I see one of these watches listed I always check and I can not recall ever seeing one that was lever set. If the listing is for a 17 jewel Rockford Indicator watch it seems to me that they are always pendant set. Does anybody out there know if the Rockford 665 ever was made with a lever setting?

I have not noticed any pics or advertisements for a Lever Model 665-17J Indicator.
**Not saying they do not exist, just I have not noticed any**
Of course the Model 655-21J Indicator is a lever model, from what I have noticed.

I've never seen a lever set Grade 665, but we do have two examples listed in our database as being lever set, one from eBay, the other from an old dealer listing. Personally I'd guess that both are errors, but, you never know.....
I've never disassembled a Grade 665, how easy would it have been for someone to convert one to lever setting?
All of the 21 jewel wind indicators, the Grade 655 in 16 size, and the Grade 950 in 18 size that I have seen are lever set.
Thanks for your input. Roy Erthardt in the 1993 edition of the American Pocket Watches, Serial Number & Grade Book lists a watch on page 298 as 16S-17JON5L-A5P-RRG"665". I reference the work all the time and I do value it. But I know there are errors. There are other places where I have seen the 665 listed as lever setting. As of now I feel pretty cerain that Rockford made two wind indicators in 16 size. The 665 is 17 jewels and is marked "Indicator" on the plates. It is pendant set. The 655 is 21 jewels and isn't marked indicator on the plates. It is lever set. The dials are slightly different too. Agree?
