I have a Waltham pocket watch from 1891-2, (serial number 5,400,XXX.) It is either a 14 or 16 size and it is a low jewel count movement. American Waltham Watch Co and safety pinion are engraved on the movement. What model movement is this and what mainspring number woukd be correct? What is the power reserve? Thank you.

According to the Waltham Pocket Watch Identification and Price Guide, which is still available from: www.hoapress.com (http://www.hoapress.com) , your serial number is in the run of 4,000 watches, serial numbers 5400001 – 5404000, model 84, size 14, 7 jewel, Hillside grade. Stem wind, lever set, Htg Case.

I don't have the spec's for the main spring, but I am sure somebody will help you by posting that information.

The 1884 model 14-size Waltham uses mainspring no. 2211. This spring has a width of .250-.255 cm and a length of 19 inches. The thickness of the spring is .021-.022 cm.

This watch has a stem wind and stem set movement. Is it still an 1884 movement?
