I have been looking at some Columbus and Illinois pocket watches both sz18 and 15jewels open face circa 1880's. What would be a more reliable watch and easier to find parts for if something went wrong. Thanks Randy.

AS an OpInIoN,
The Illinois, mainly from the higher production numbers... this 'should' make repair parts a bit more plentiful.

Hi Randy,
Like Terry said Illinois watches are easier to find parts for and Alot of there parts are interchangeable with other Illinois Watches. I think a good Illinois is a better runner than columbus and also easy to work on. Go with the Illinois and I think you can't go wrong. I have a two 18 size bunn's 15j and one 17j in my collection and they keep great time. Try to get a Illinois that's listed as railroad grade at the time it was made. I hope thus helps and have a nice day.
Sincerely, Don

From what I've read Columbus watches were not known as first class watches in their day. I'd second what has been said about Illinois watches.
