elginvanguard:

If it also has a 'D' in the pennant, such as in This Example (http://static.flickr.com/30/55259278_65c11ed667_o.jpg), it signifies a grade No. 107. According to Bob Arnold, co-author of a book on Hampden, the pennant dials were only furnished on the early model 2, 16-size watches.

It should be noted that the model numbers were assigned after the later watches were in production and that the earliest model 2 movements were produced before the model 1 movements.

P.S. The book is: “The Hampden Watch Co.,” NAWCC Special Order Supplement #1, J. Hernick and R. Arnold, NAWCC, Columbia, PA, 1997 (may still be available - see Heart of America Press (http://www.hoapress.com)).

Also, be advised. The model 2, 16S Hampden is slightly thicker that a regular 16S movement. The model 2 requires a special case. So, be sure that your watch (movement and case) stay together.

Yep!

According to the reconstructed serial number list in the above mentioned reference book, Hampden serial number 848174 is a model 2, grade No. 107, built in about 1893.
