Good evening all:

I am working on a 7J 18S Elgin and I am now ready to clean, oil, and hopefully reassemble. My question is fairly armature and I think I know the answer?.but?.you can be too careful  As the pivot holes for the Centre, third, fourth, escapement, and pallet arbor are not jeweled, do they get any oil, or are they simply cleaned with pegwood?

Thank you in advance!

Regardless of the jeweling, they still get oiled.

....and let me ask if the oil should be the same one as in a jeweled pivot or must be thicker?
thanks

Same oil.

Be sure to use the correct amount of oil at each point though - (doesn't matter whether it is jeweled or not)

Just a slight touch of oil for the escape wheel and pallet pinions, half full oiler on the pallet stones, full oiler for the other wheel pinions.

Best to pick up a book such as Fried's "The Watch Repairer's Manual" or de Carle's "Practical Watch Repairing" so that you can get all the info on oiling
