A well jeweled Swiss watch with a bar movemement and a lever escapement, made possibly ca. 1890, has an arrow piercing a snail as the only identification mark. This mark is punched on the movement's plate. Is anybody familiar with the mark? Thank you in anticipation.

Fontainemelon used an arrow piercing an upside-down apple which has its stem pointing downward on the left side. Is this the mark?

Thank you for your suggestion. Most likely you are right. My mistake of seeing a 'snail' instead of 'upside-down apple, which has its stem pointing downwards on the left side' may be explained by the size of the mark, and - perhaps - by a not-very-exact use of the punch. BTW, where have you found your detailed description of this Fontainnemelon mark? Kathy Pritchard wrote only: 'an arrow piercing the apple' and 'an arrow through an apple'.

When I wrote the post I had only seen an illustration of the mark in "Wristwatches" by Kahlert, Muhe and Brunner
Pritchard's "Swiss Timepiece Makers" also illustrates the mark--which is probably upside-down in "Wristwatches"--on page F-51, in a 1924 ad--as the ad shows a right-side-up apple with an arrow facing left, through it.
