Can the Gruen-era (pre-1894) Columbus grades be distinguished from the post-Gruen-era (post-1894) Columbus grades without reference to the serial numbers? In other words, are there differences in design, materials, finish, etc.?

Annie: As far as I know there are no company records to identify Columbus Watches (Swiss or American). Much of the grade designations are by jewel count and dial type, so unless the dial is original and the watch has not been messed with it would be very difficult to identify grade.
That is one of the reasons I have started to develop a PICTURE GALLERY of all Columbus 18s watches.
