Randy,
The case on this watch is an ordinary case. The movement is called a convertible because it can be wound from both the 3 and 12 positions and therefore will work in either a hunting or an open face case. Of course, most any movement can be mounted in either style case, but the convertible will look correct either way.

Thanks Mike the way I was reading it was that it was some kind of special case that could be an open face or hunter case.but it's just a sidewinder or reg open face.I'll tell you some people will try anything to sell a product.
Thanks. RB P.S.I am glad this site is around to help new collectors figure out what is what.

Randy,
There are definitely some sellers on ebay that spew a lot of fluff, but in this case I think it's either lack of knowledge or a lazy description. Either way, I can see how someone could be confused. However, if you ask me, these movements are pretty cool and the seller does provide a decent picture so I wouldn't let the description stop me from bidding on it. I'm not an Elgin collector, but I've always wanted to work on one just to see how they're made. Just so it's clear to you or anyone else, I am not connected to the seller in any way an I have no idea who it is.

Thanks Mike I appreciate your time and knowledge. When I am on ebay I try to be real careful because I have been burned before. And also found some reputable dealers. And the reputable one's have been NAWCC members. So before buying, I like to consult with the message board,I wish I found the board earlier I would have saved some money but you live and learn. Thanks alot Randy B.
