NAWCC_NEWS. Dear members, chapters and committees. I promised to report to the membership every time the Executive Committee met, even though this committee does not decide things without the whole council.
We met on July 14, 2001 at 11:00 AM. The attendees were the Officers and the executive Director. The subject was fundraising philosophy. After a discussion about the right and wrong ways to achieve success, and some of the initiatives already underway, the conversation moved to the question of supporting the fundraising efforts of various parts of our Association, such as the library, school etc. We agreed that fund raising should be conducted under the overall banner of the whole NAWCC. That is, although a giver may specify where a donation is to be placed, we as a group will not in any way favor one part of our organization over another. We adjourned at noon.
On another topic, I wish to state that I will henceforth consult with the Awards Committee on all Star Fellow awards before granting such. The Awards committee has requested, and Council approved, a recommended procedure to that effect, and I support it. Those of you who are supporting any particular person for this top award will have to impress the committee, and it is likely that you will have to focus upon achievements since the Fellow award was granted to that individual.
The President will still have a final say on Star Fellow awards, but I will follow the practise of the past two Presidents in never overuling the decision of the Awards Committee on the Fellow award. It is also appropriate that the Awards Committee recommendation that there be a 5 year gap between the Fellow and Star Fellow awards for any one person be accepted. In the unlikely event that this doesn't make sense for someone, I will seek Awards Committee exception, but I dont expect that to happen-- and if it does, you all will be told why!
Sincerely, Doug Cowan, President
