I have a problem with the winding clutch on a 992B.
The watch winds fine, but in the 'backward' direction, the clutch seizes and the crown
will start unscrewing from the stem. I cleaned the watch, but that didn't correct the problem.
I removed the winding arbor, clutch and pinion, and polished the faces of the clutch with Simichrome.
After cleaning the winding pieces, and reassembling, the problem persists. The springs appear OK (the clutch
seizes even with the springs removed). I performed this three times without success.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Or does anyone have any ideas on correcting this?

Thanks,
Bryan

Brian,

Did you grease the stem and the ratchet faces of the clutch wheel and winding pinion?

Doug.....
Yes... I oiled the winding arbor and greased the ratchet faces. Nothing binds and
the clutch moves from winding to setting easily.

Bryan,
I once had that problem with a 992B. I seem to recall that mine was caused by my not having tightened the screw on the winding wheel. This enabled the winding wheel to tip upward slightly and causing a hangup on the ratchet wheel. Since you've had it apart to get to the winding parts again I doubt if this was your problem. I just figured I'd toss it out there just in case. Good luck.
