I got an old open faced N Howard to clean and put a mainspring in today. It is recased in a nickel case with a private label Dial that reads "M. Huffman/ Quincy Illinois".

The watch was eqquiped with some manner of aftermarket repeater, but it has no name (does that mean it's NOT Terstegan?) The repeater works, but barely, and the customer doesn't want to pay for the whole overhaul because she is going to resell it. Needless to say, I told her I wasn't going to do a Half @&^ job, and she was less than pleased.

She seems to think that it is more a big deal with the repeater, but after seeing a couple of recent posts I am inclined to wonder otherwise. What do you all think?

Sounds like a MAJOR rarity, one way or the other.

We have all seen the ads for "After market repeaters" but few have surfaced.

Her watch should go to public auction nevertheless.

Cannot wait to see a pic! Jeff Hess

Not if a homemade or butchered job!

I suspect it to be the product of an exceedingly dull winter for some watchmaker. Everything you can see is well finished but the undersides leave something to be desired. The bearings are jewelled where you can see them, plain where you cannot, and therein lies most of its problems.

I will try for some pictures tomorrow.
