that Howard pocket watches only fit in a Howard case. Is this true? Every Howard I have is in a Howard case...

They were only sold in Howard cases except for the earliest Waltham Howards. Even those are in cases made by the Keyston Watch Case Co. which owned the E. Howard Watch Co. However, I believe these are standard 16 size cases.
Unless you are talking about the early E. Howard & Co. watches. These watches have a special size case, but they were available from many sources.
