Hello, This is really not a pocketwatch question per se, but here goes. I have a
Boston Clock Co. carriage clock on which the
pallet staff has one of the pallets broken off. Does anyone out there know of a good
machinist that can reproduce it. Most clock
machinists won't come near anything so small
and delicate so I thought I would ask you guys. I can send pictures of what I'm talking
about. Thanks to all.

Have you tried contacting Chelsea for a replacement part? They have material going back essentially all the way.

Chris Carey at Watertown Watch & Clock may also be able to help. Watrtwn@aol.com

Stephen,

A confusion of terms! You say, "the pallet staff has one of the pallets broken off". If in fact it is the ANCHOR that has a pallet broken off, THAT is one thing. However, if the ARBOR has a PIVOT broken off, that is quite another! Which is your problem? The solution to the one problem will be much tougher than the solution to the other.

Doug S.

Good ideas. Doug, to answer your question,I
think it's what is called the anchor. By pallet staff I mean the flat piece that has
what looks like a tuning fork on the end
closest to the hairspring balance wheel and
on the other end that interfaces with the
escape wheel (what would be a verge on a clock)there are two pallets, the left one of which is broken off. I did try to send you
an email with a picture attached, twice, but
got the "mailer daemon" so I know it didn't go through.

Stephen,

I conclude by your second posting that the pallet ARBOR is ok, but the ANCHOR is broken. That will be the tough one to solve I'm afraid. Someone mentioned earlier that you should go direct to Chelsea for a replacement. It would appear as though that might be your best choice.

Doug S.
