hallmickey,
According to Meggers & Ehrhardt in their book American Watches Identification & Price Guide, available from numerous sources or from H O A Press, P O Box 9808, Kansas City, Missouri, 64134, ISBN # 0-913902-53-5, the Elm City watch is described as a "dollar watch", made by the New Haven Clock Co. That means they were a "pin lever escapement", no jewels, and sold for $ 1.00 early in the 20th century. By 1946, dollar watches were selling for between $ 4 and $ 5. This is what is known as a contract watch, produced by a manufacturer of inexpensive watches for a distibutor/broker with a name of his choice. These watches usually ended up in the landfill when they were deemed not worth repairing. So it is interesting when one turns up now and then. Enjoy.
Regards,
Doug S.
