hi, i now have my !!bushed! clock all re-assembled yet i am having difficulty setting the anchor and the crutch and the escaple wheel. Its only the anchor that looks like it can move but how do you know where to set it. At the moment my pendulum stops after a while.?

Huh! Don't know why you got no response. Great question and I'm certainly not an expert but I'll share my views and maybe the experts will appear and correct me, giving you good info. First you need to determine that the reason it stops after awhile is the pallet-to-tooth spacing. But let's suppose it is. I shoot for maximum impulse. I lower the verge into the wheel until the clock stops and the escape wheel can't escape. Then I slowly lift the verge until the clock just begins to run. I let it run a few revolutions of the escape wheel then INCREASE the spacing maybe just a few thousandths to accomodate any tooth runout or bushing wear. C'mon experts. I know I'm wrong. I gotta be. See, I'm gonna learn too now. tehee Thanks Scottie

You are absolutely correct - this is the way I have suggested to Chris off-list

OK, thanks that helps and i can see what your saying. Yet.... the anchor axel and the crutch also have a screw that can define the degree of angle you set the anchor at in respect to the vertical plane of the crutch. So for example you can set the crutch going straight down at 90o to the flat of the anchor or you can set the anchor at a slight angle to the crutch and escape wheel. This is hard to explain and i`m not doing a good job but basically there is one screw that lets you swivel the crutch and anchor. what angle do you need the anchor at when the crutch is vertical.?
Thanks for answering, nobody else did! :frown:

It sounds like the screw you are refering to is to adjust the beat(the even ticks or ticking of the clock). If you dressed the verge down to get the groves and pits out, what needs to be adjusted (if a recoil esc.)is the inside and outside drops.
The outside drop is the space between the tooth that drops off the exit pallet and the pallet itself at the instant that a tooth drops on the entrance pallet this space is outside the span of the pallets and is adjusted by moving the verge closer to or farther from the wheel. The inside drop is the space between the the tooth that let off the entrace pallet and the pallet itself at the instance the oposing tooth drops on the exit pallet and is adjusted by closing the pallets via bending the verge in the center.
The drops should be as small as possible without any possibility of hanging up on any tooth. And the inside and outside drops should be equal distances to each other. I check and adjust this with the suspension and pend. of the movmnt by holding the crutch between my index fingers and moving it to one side until a tooth drops and inspect the space size then swing to the oposite side. When that is done and the movmnt is ready to run then you can adjust the beat as the angle between the verge and crutch is not pertenant to the drops.
