I came across this interesting old pocket watch on a small time auction site, so I thought I would post it for others to look. It has a very high reserve, but is it really worth that much?? Not that I would have the money to buy it at that price.

Marwick Markham is a very collectible English watchmaker and in my opinion, this particular item the opening bid of $1400 would be tops on the current RETAIL American market.

I don't think I would go this amount without examining the piece first hand for the condition of the dial, type of escapement (if unique), quality of movement construction, visible repairs etc.

The maximum I would venture to offer if I had the funds would be $700, but then I'm a bottom feeder and like to buy wholesale whenever I can.

Prices are slowly rising for early English watches in America, so someone may very well find this a bargain or an opportunity to acquire something unique.
