A couple of my watches, including an old waltham, have begun to smell very badly. The archives refer to the same problem developing with a member's fusees, attributing the problem to organic oil going bad. Has anyone else noticed the problem, and does anyone have a solution short of cleaning all of the offenders? Thanks in advance!

The solution is to have the watch cleaned and freshly oiled. I have never heard of a deodorant for watches.

occasionally old oil or bad cleaning solutions can cause an odor!

The old animal oils do have a tendancy to smell bad. The new synthetic lubricants do not have that problem.

I occasionally get watches in for repair that are stinky with perfume. If I get "comebacks" that reek of it I hold my breath and may charge for it instead of giving warrantee status. Perfume is a known watch stopper!
